A Harmonious Blend: New Music from Avant-Garde and Synth-Pop Legends
Mark Springer, renowned for his work with Rip Rig and Panic, is set to unveil an ambitious project that merges classical and pop elements. Teaming up with Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys and the esteemed Sacconi String Quartet, the album “Sleep of Reason” will be available as a double vinyl, CD, and digital release on April 25.
Inspired by Francisco Goya’s evocative etchings, the album comprises three major compositions: a solo piano opus, a string quartet, and a quintet for voice and strings. These intricate pieces aim to reflect and critique the “monsters” of modern times, echoing Goya’s own reflections on his era.
The lead single, “Phantoms and Monsters,” is set to drop on March 14 across all digital platforms, offering a glimpse into the album’s atmospheric and introspective journey. The collaboration between Springer and Tennant is particularly noteworthy, combining Springer’s musical composition with Tennant’s sharp lyrical insights and vocal prowess.
Springer’s venture into this project showcases his diverse compositional skills, having previously engaged in chamber music, operatic, and cinematic scores. The integration of Tennant’s distinctive pop sensibilities with classical string arrangements results in a unique and compelling soundscape.
“Sleep of Reason” will be released jointly by Sub Rosa and The Exit Label, with pre-orders available on Bandcamp starting March 7.
