From Reflection to Action: New Book Offers a Personal Approach to Activism

A difficult conversation, a commitment to a local cause or a more attentive encounter with another person can all become starting points for meaningful engagement. In Regenerating an Unravelling World: The Sacred Challenges of the Warrior Activist, Serge Beddington-Behrens encourages readers to connect everyday choices with a wider commitment to social renewal. The new title is scheduled for publication in 2026 by Umbria Press.

Rather than presenting activism as a single occupation or personality type, Beddington-Behrens emphasises the importance of finding an appropriate contribution. He describes his own principal resources as his voice, his writing, his understanding of the human psyche and his work with individuals and retreat groups. Readers are encouraged to consider both the issues that matter deeply to them and the capabilities they can realistically offer.

Practical exercises accompany that exploration. The opening chapters ask readers to reflect on qualities they would like to develop, visualise putting those qualities into practice and examine their responses to conflict. Other suggested activities include brief morning reflection, bringing fuller attention to ordinary tasks and considering habits that drain energy. These practices are presented as ways to support the author’s model of thoughtful, sustained engagement.

The book also stresses commitment and strategy, arguing that good intentions need to be matched by considered action. Its release introduces a guide aimed not only at people already campaigning for change, but also at those who feel uncertain about their place in that work. The recurring challenge is personal and concrete: identify where a contribution is needed, decide what is possible and begin.
