Unpacking Michal Gutman’s “War Boys”: A Factual Look at the Latest Release
Israeli musician Michal Gutman has announced “War Boys,” the second single from her 2025–2026 singles project. The track is set for release in September 2025 and continues the thematic exploration Gutman began with her 2024 solo album “Never Coming Home,” and further developed through her band Whaling Snails.
“War Boys” was written and composed by Gutman, who performs vocals, bass, and synthesizer. The single was recorded and mixed by Yiftah Yeshurun at Salon Kalon Studios in Gan Shmuel, with programming, guitars, and additional backing vocals contributed by Tamar Zinger and Tuval Brown handling drums and percussion.
Musically, Gutman’s approach incorporates polyrhythms, looped arrangements, and unconventional harmonic structures. Her performances often blend cabaret stylings, dance rhythms reminiscent of 80s clubs, and cinematic soundscapes, all of which are present in “War Boys.”
The single follows her critically acclaimed body of work and further investigates the intersection of personal identity and social upheaval, topics that have received considerable attention in recent reviews. “War Boys” expands upon Gutman’s signature sound and subject matter, promising a compelling addition to her discography.
