METAPHYSICAL: A PROFILE IN HIP-HOP RESILIENCE AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

METAPHYSICAL, born Philip Singer, is an independent hip-hop artist and entrepreneur whose career and life trajectory are defined by extraordinary resilience. With roots in Pasadena and California’s Central Valley, METAPHYSICAL has transformed a series of profound hardships into creative and professional success.

In his teenage years, METAPHYSICAL struggled with addiction and attended five high schools within four years. In 1994, a severe car accident left him in a coma for nearly a month, after which he faced a long recovery process, relearning how to walk and talk. The aftermath included a diagnosis of epilepsy, which led to additional challenges such as untreated seizures resulting in further injuries. Despite these obstacles, METAPHYSICAL eventually found stability through music, faith, and medical treatment, and he is now seizure-free.

METAPHYSICAL is also a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the role of M.O.S. 92 Bravo (cook). His experiences in the military contributed to his disciplined approach to both his artistic endeavors and business initiatives. Following his service, METAPHYSICAL endured periods of homelessness and survived a traumatic police encounter in 2021, all of which inform his honest and candid musical storytelling.

His music, including the single “34th Floor,” draws directly from these experiences, offering both reflection and hope through a unique blend of old-school soul and hip-hop lyricism. METAPHYSICAL’s songwriting and performances are characterized by authenticity and a message of perseverance.

Outside of music, METAPHYSICAL has made significant strides as an entrepreneur. He is the founder of Fred Sanford Music Publishing Group. In addition, his beverage brand, H I G H Ice Tea, is now stocked by Kroger, demonstrating his commitment to business innovation alongside his artistic career.

METAPHYSICAL regularly speaks out about living with epilepsy, using his platform both to raise awareness and to support others with chronic health conditions. Now based in Hollywood, he continues to work on new music and grow his ventures, building a movement grounded in overcoming adversity and helping others do the same.
