Music is often seen as a way to express oneself, to convey emotions and tell stories. However, for Vanilla Franco, it all started as an inside joke between friends. A joke that turned into a full-fledged, independent debut album, titled Traction.

The brainchild of Joey Quinn, Vanilla Franco began as a non-existent band that was accidentally booked for a gig. With no real musicians or bandmates, Quinn took matters into his own hands and recruited friends and neighbors to learn their respective instruments. And thus, Vanilla Franco was born, named after a mellow version of Trainspotting’s infamous character, Francis Begbie. From its inception as a live band, Vanilla Franco has now become a one-man show. Joey Quinn single-handedly wrote, composed, and mixed every song on Traction, without any prior experience. The artist also took on the challenge of creating the accompanying music videos and album artwork. A true do-it-yourself project that showcases Quinn’s determination and passion for music.

Traction, set to release on December 1st, 2023, is a 9-track indie-rock album that will surprise fans with its unlikely beginnings. The album is sure to resonate with supporters of bands like Idles, Arctic Monkeys, and Gorillaz, but stands out with its unique sound and story. The lead single from Traction, “Learn Something,” also serves as the album’s closing track. It captures the infectious rhythm of a full band project, with Quinn’s grounded drumming as the foundation. The song seamlessly transitions between eclectic melodies and instruments, showcasing Vanilla Franco’s versatility and Quinn’s musical talent. But above all, Traction is a testament to the power of one person’s determination and self-belief. With no formal training, Vanilla Franco stands as proof that anyone can create a whole record if they put their mind to it. It is an album that encourages and inspires aspiring artists to chase their dreams and turn their ideas into tangible creations.
