Blindness & Light’s Enchanting Debut Album is a Throwback to the Post Punk Scene
With the upcoming release of their self-titled album, Blindness & Light are ushering in the resurgence of the post-punk and indie music that dominated the 80s music scene. Influenced by the likes of Joy Division, The Smiths and Radiohead, the 8-track album showcases Blindness & Light’s emotive and vulnerable style of music made palpable through the rich production and technical fidelity of the tracks.
The album is preceded by two lead singles which both make a statement in their own ways; The Old Skylight and The Ballad of Them and Us. The Old Skylight, released May 3rd, 2023, shows off the melancholic soundscape of the album with a moving soundscape crafted with the help of the artist’s friends and family.
The single offers a double treat by enlisting their daughter Elise S. Potter to provide the bass as well as having a friend play the trumpet and another family friend Helen Reynolds provide the backing vocals. The Ballad of Them and Us, released February 27th, 2023, features former The Christians member Henry Priestman, who plays additional harmonica and melodica on top of providing a remix of the single, the Ynys Môn mix which will be featured on the album.
This cut bursts with energy and brightness courtesy of the powerful harmonica and shows off Blindness & Light’s unique and signature style. Aside from their upcoming album, Blindness & Light are also working on a side project with Mike Juvenile (KEEF) called Radio Psychosis.
