REVIEW: Alt-Rockers, Some Velvet Morning’s New Album, ‘Rough Seas’
Fans of Bastille and Imagine Dragons! Some Velvet Morning’s release of ‘Rough Seas’ could just be the album for you! And with a new vinyl release coming 19th September with weekly music video releases to follow, there is a lot to look forward to – anyone who enjoys good music with heaps of versatility, keep both eyes peeled for this!
With opening tracks in the lead single, ‘Ghosts’ and the album’s namesake, ‘Rough Seas’, the band are straight away showing off their musical prowess with their versatility – each track sounds like they’re made by different bands, the only constant is their unmistakeable style. Imprinting a style to multiple different approaches takes more than just ability, it takes a creativity that is not learned, but a natural gift. From blood pumping anthems In ‘Ghosts’, to acoustic songs that pull on the heartstrings in ‘After Goodbye’, they’re able to create atmospheres within their music, there is something in ’Rough Seas’ for any music lover.
The trio are made up of drummer, Rob Flanagan, and brothers Desmond and Gavin Lambert, who play guitar and bass respectively, with both contributing to the vocals – they have all perfected a style that is so free-flowing that each song feels different from the last, keeping each song fresh and ready to be heard without a second’s interruption. With production from Coldplay producer, Rik Simpson, ‘Rough Seas’ hits all the right notes regardless of approach which is sure to earn them fans from all over very soon.
With the success the band as enjoyed with this release, a vinyl re-release is coming September 19th – something that should be a prized possession for anyone who loves good album artwork and even better music. With hits across the tracklisting, multiple videos are expected – with weekly releases commencing on the 19th September with ‘Ghosts’, ‘Good To See You’ on the 26th, and ‘Goodbye’ on 6th October.
