Father and son duo ‘Uneven Stevens’ hit headlines with new track ‘Paper Me’

Now, we’ve all been in this position. You go for an interview, you think you’ve aced it, but you never hear from the employer again. Sucks right?

Well, with their single ‘Paper Me’ , this unlikely double act know exactly how you feel.

After being made redundant in Summer 2019, father of the team, Richard Stevens, had begun applying for all sorts of jobs.

Alas, as he found out, employers often go off the CV in front of them, rather than meeting a potential candidate.

Considering Richard had 30 years experience in the medical field, having made a living from producing heart valves, it probably comes as a shock to many that he was unsuccessful.

However, the one thing that Richard didn’t account for was the tenacity of his son, Oscar.

Determined to help his dad, they became the Batman and Robin of the music industry and produced ‘Paper Me’, which helped Richard get a job, picking up vast media coverage in the process.

In March of this year, Oscar and his dad set about their new venture and began to create their new indie tune.

At first, the odd introduction of soft piano is unexpected. However, as the song progresses it surprisingly welds the project together.

After this peaceful start to the track, Oscar gets it going with his Gallagher-esque vocals.

Yes, you did read that right, a piano intro mixed with a Gallagher-style voice. I can confirm, however, it sounds nothing like ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’.

At first, I did worry that the piano would contrast too much from Oscar’s voice, but the two marry well as the song progresses to produce something very unique.

If that wasn’t enough, the man who was the sole inspiration for the track, Richard, treats us to his own vocals as the songs backing singer halfway through.

It has to be said, the pair seem to work great together and I for one would love to see more from Uneven Stevens.

The tongue-in-cheek vibe of the whole song just gives it a final tick that sets this apart from nearly all other tracks you’ve ever listened to.

By taking on a struggle that millions of us have faced and making it comical, it shows the brighter side of life, especially in such testing times.

Not only that, but the pure enjoyment that radiates out of this makes it a feel good track for you to have a giggle at if things haven’t quite gone your way today.

However, this isn’t a fairytale with no ending. After releasing the song, Richard managed to gain a job off the back of a successful interview, thanks to the responses from the Uneven Stevens track.

Richard’s success via the medium of music prompted media outlets from all over the nation to cover his story. Uneven Stevens‘ heartfelt success was picked up by the likes of The i; Metro; The Sun; The Star; on Channel 5 News and Across Radio Worldwide

If nothing else, Richard and his son’s endeavours goes to show that perseverance pays off.
